What is the aroTHERM plus Vaillant heat pump?
The Vaillant aroTHERM plus is an air-source heat pump range designed for UK climates using R290 propane refrigerant. It’s known for delivering higher flow temperatures than many older heat pumps while still maintaining good efficiency at lower settings.
My own 5 kW aroTHERM plus runs alongside solar, batteries and smart tariffs, and much of the Energy Stats UK content is based on real data from this setup.
The system uses weather compensation to adjust flow temperature automatically, which helps keep running costs down and improves comfort.
One of the reasons it’s popular in retrofit homes is the wide modulation range, meaning it can run gently during milder weather instead of constantly cycling on and off. That stability is something you’ll see reflected across my performance graphs and real-world monitoring pages.
