Octopus Refer a Friend Code and Referral Link
Octopus Energy’s Refer a Friend scheme gives new customers £50 energy credit when they join using a valid referral link.
The existing Octopus customer who shared the link also receives £50 credit.
You can use my Octopus Refer a Friend link below:
The £50 is added to your Octopus account after your switch has completed and your first Direct Debit has been successfully taken.
How does Octopus Refer a Friend work?
The Octopus referral process is fairly simple:
- Open a valid Octopus Refer a Friend link.
- Request your quote and complete the online sign-up process.
- Wait for your energy supply to switch to Octopus.
- Octopus adds the £50 referral credit after your first Direct Debit has been taken.
Octopus says referral credit is typically added around four weeks after joining, although it may take longer if anything delays the switch.
Is it an Octopus referral code or a referral link?
Although people often search for an Octopus Refer a Friend code, Octopus normally uses a personal referral link.
There is not usually a separate code that you need to copy and enter during the sign-up process.
Opening the referral link takes you to Octopus Energy with the referral already attached to your application.

How much is the Octopus referral reward?
The standard Octopus Refer a Friend reward is currently:
- £50 energy credit for the new customer
- £50 energy credit for the person who referred them
This means the total reward is £100, split equally between the two Octopus accounts.
The reward is account credit rather than cash paid into your bank account. It reduces the balance of your Octopus Energy account and contributes towards your future energy bills.
Referral offers can change, so check the reward shown by Octopus during sign-up before completing your switch.
Who can use an Octopus Refer a Friend link?
The referral scheme is mainly intended for new customers moving their household energy supply to Octopus.
You should begin the switch through the referral link so Octopus can connect your new account to the referral.
You may not receive the reward if:
- You are already supplied by Octopus Energy.
- You have already claimed another switching or joining offer.
- You start the switch separately rather than through the referral link.
- Your switch does not complete.
- The application does not meet Octopus Energy’s current referral terms.
Only one switching offer can normally be claimed for the same new account.
Does Octopus still do Refer a Friend in 2026?
Yes. Octopus Energy still operates its Refer a Friend scheme in 2026.
New customers who join through an eligible referral link currently receive £50 energy credit. The referring customer also receives £50.

How long does the Octopus referral credit take?
The referral credit is not normally added as soon as you submit your application.
Your energy switch first needs to complete. Octopus also says your first monthly Direct Debit must be successfully taken before the referral reward can be added.
The credit typically appears around four weeks after joining, but this can take longer where there is a delay with the switch or payment.
You can check your Octopus account balance and transaction history through your online account or the Octopus app.
Can existing Octopus customers use a referral link?
An existing Octopus customer cannot normally use another customer’s referral link to claim a second joining reward.
The Refer a Friend offer is aimed at customers who are moving their energy supply to Octopus through an eligible referral link.
Existing customers can, however, find their own personal referral link in their Octopus account and share it with friends or family who are considering switching.
Where do I find my own Octopus referral link?
Once you are an Octopus Energy customer, your personal referral link can normally be found in your online account or the Octopus app.
The link usually begins with:
share.octopus.energy
You can send that link to friends or family. When an eligible new customer joins through it, you should both receive the current referral reward once the qualifying conditions have been met.
Which Octopus tariff can I join?
The referral link starts the process of joining Octopus Energy. The tariffs available to you will depend on your property, meters, location and any compatible technology you have installed.
Energy Stats UK has information and regional pricing for several Octopus tariffs, including:
Some smart tariffs have extra eligibility requirements, such as a smart meter, compatible electric vehicle, charger, heat pump or battery.
Joining Octopus through a referral link does not mean you must remain on one specific tariff.
