Predbat can automatically plan when your home battery should charge, discharge or export, using information such as electricity prices, solar forecasts and your expected household consumption.

What Is Predbat?
Predbat is a home battery prediction and automation system designed to make better use of solar generation, battery storage and time-of-use electricity tariffs.
Rather than relying on a fixed overnight charging schedule, Predbat can create a plan based on factors including:
- Upcoming electricity import and export prices
- Forecast solar generation
- Expected household electricity use
- Available battery capacity
- Battery charging and discharging limits
- Planned periods of cheap or expensive electricity
Predbat originally became popular as an advanced Home Assistant application and supports a range of battery and inverter systems. It can monitor your energy system, control battery charging and, where supported and correctly configured, plan forced exports.
This can make it particularly useful for homes using tariffs such as Octopus Agile, where electricity prices change every 30 minutes.
How Does the Predbat Referral Work?
Follow my Predbat referral link and complete the Predbat registration process.
- Select the Predbat referral button below.
- Create your Predbat account.
- Connect your compatible home battery or Home Assistant setup.
- Configure your tariff, solar forecast and battery settings.
- Review Predbat’s plan before allowing it to control charging or exporting.
[USE MY PREDBAT REFERRAL LINK]
Predbat can be configured in different operating modes. Monitor mode allows you to inspect the plan without Predbat controlling the battery, while its control modes can manage charging and, where enabled, discharging or exporting.
It is worth starting cautiously and checking that your tariff, inverter limits, battery reserve and export settings have all been entered correctly.
Using Predbat With Axle Energy
Predbat can also work alongside Axle Energy, allowing compatible battery owners to take part in selected grid events without abandoning their normal battery optimisation.
Axle’s Home Assistant integration provides information about upcoming grid events. Predbat support is built into the integration, allowing those events to be included when it prepares the battery plan.
In practice, Predbat can prepare the battery around an Axle event while still considering:
- Your electricity tariff
- Expected solar generation
- Household demand
- Battery state of charge
- The value of importing, storing or exporting electricity
This matters because a battery may need to be charged before an event or kept above a certain level so that energy is available to export when requested.
Predbat and Axle Energy Referral Codes
You can use both services together, but they have separate sign-up and referral processes.

Eligibility, supported equipment, event payments and referral rewards can change. Check the current Predbat and Axle terms before registering or making changes to your battery setup.
Is Predbat Suitable for Every Battery Owner?
Predbat is most likely to appeal to people who have:
- A compatible home battery or inverter
- A time-of-use electricity tariff
- Home Assistant or another supported Predbat setup
- Solar panels, although solar is not essential
- Import or export prices that vary during the day
- An interest in actively optimising their battery
It may be less suitable if you want a completely hands-off system with no initial configuration or checking.
Predbat makes decisions using the information and limits provided to it. Incorrect tariff rates, battery capacities, inverter settings or charging limits may result in a plan that does not work as expected.
Predbat Explained With Richard Eyres
I spoke to Richard Eyres from Predbat for the Energy Unwrapped podcast.
We discussed what Predbat does, why it was created, how it predicts household energy use and how it can decide when a battery should charge or export.
The interview also covers the relationship between Predbat, dynamic electricity tariffs, solar forecasts, home batteries and services such as Axle Energy.
