Is Octopus cosy a good tariff?
Octopus Cosy can be a good tariff if you can take advantage of its three daily cheaper electricity windows for heating and hot water.
Those off-peak slots are designed to match when the grid often has lower demand or abundant supply, so heat pumps, electric boilers or radiators can run at a lower unit cost.
If you schedule your main heating load into those periods and avoid using expensive peak electricity, your overall costs can be noticeably lower than on a standard fixed tariff.
The savings are bigger the more you can shift usage and the more flexible your heating system is.
For homes that can’t move much demand or don’t use electric heating, Cosy is less likely to beat a simple fixed price deal.
